A recent interview with Steve Dietz, a great platform creator and artistic curator of the 2010 01 San José Biennial. He is also the artistic director of Zero1, which is an Art and Technology Network producing the Biennial. The venue is a multi-disciplinary event of visual and performing arts, the moving image, public art, and interactive digital media and North-Americas answer to Ars Electronica in Linz.

We believed we could see something inside (including ourselves) through them.
Such a belief would collapse automatically
when they exceeded the surface
(I’ve searched for that mode of exceeding)
Surface, composed wholly of pores,
is not distinguisable from pore itself

sometimes closed-circuit of vision,
sometimes chemiclly decayed retina
sometimes clumsy equivalence between inside and outside

‘”Dereliction of Duty” is a real-time video installation using a networked security camera normally seen around streets and buildings. This artwork considers a surveillance camera named to ‘SEOUL DSN6-3#2F’ as a living creator which thinks and acts like a human being. It provides viewers a live scene of its surroundings without any kind of adjustments.
