The idea of the thought experiment – where one thinks of things and non-things without necessarily being trapped in things – has always fascinated him.

FIELD creates experimental animations and short films, interactive installations and
audiovisual performances. Using custom software, we build our own tools to discover
new ways of visual design.

Inspired by modern art, nature, science and technology, we aim to create animate images
with a life of its own. Generative processes, interactive systems, and natural sciences like
Artificial Life research are the reference points from which we draw ideas, methods, and
mindset into our creative process. We believe this FIELD is still largely unexplored, and
that there are exciting visual places yet to be discovered in this landscape. FIELD has
exhibited and performed in media arts festivals and galleries across Europe and in the U.S.

Marcus Wendt
Born 1982 in Schwedt (Oder), Germany and grown up in Bavaria, Marcus has been
working as an artist and designer since 2000. Looking for more complexity and
conceptual depth in visual design, programming became his primary means for creative
expression.
Marcus studied Fine Arts and Visual Communication at the School of Arts and Design in
Kassel and graduated with distinction in February 2009.

Virtual and multimedia artist

Juria Yoshikawa (virtual avatar artist (SL))
After two decades of creative pursuits - ranging from conceptual art, installation, poetry, performance, computer art, animation, photography and digital design - Juria Yoshikawa arrived in Second Life (SL) in the winter of 2007 looking for a new artistic spark. Rather than bringing in real life artwork, Juria is compelled to use mainly the elements that make up SL itself. A typical Juria Yoshikawa virtual artwork mixes kinetic objects, animated texture, ambient noise and av animations. She inevitably chooses scales larger than conventional gallery work because she is interested in people experiencing the work in a physical way - flying through them, riding on them and socializing within the art. To Juria virtual art is about freeing oneself up to create in ways she finds impossible in real life.

Lance Shields (real life artist (RL))
In my real life, I am a Tokyo based multimedia artist and creative director. I have spent many years making digital art, installation art and performance. Sculpture and installation are where I started my creative career but I became progressively more involved in the digital and interactive. I see SL as a return back to my artistic roots yet at the same time combines my newer interests in the phenomenology in the virtual world or as phenomenology is defined as “the reflective study of the essence of consciousness as experienced from the first-person point of view”. In my commercial life, I am a social media strategist at a global company that embraces social networking, blogging and Second Life.
