b. 1963 Reykjavík, lives in Reykjavik.

Hrafnkell Sigurdsson studied in Iceland and Holland and holds a MFA degree from Goldsmiths College, London (2002). He has exhibited widely in solo and group shows and his work can be found in collections such as the Goetz Collection, Munich, H&F in the Netherlands and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Hrafnkell’s Conversion pieces were shown at Statement Paris Photo 2006, and his exhibition Crew and Function Ground was awarded the Icelandic Visual Arts Award in 2007.

Hrafnkell works in various media including photography, sculpture, and performance, and has explored the transitory elements in man’s relationship with nature and ideas of reversal, ritual, and abjection. His photographic series include images of empty tents in the snow, houses under construction, garbage bags in the streets, portraits of trash and divine landscape
